Catching Fire & Mockingjay

A few weeks ago I finished reading the last two books of The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. This series was really really good. All 3 of the books were great quick reads. If you haven’t read the first book (which I reviewed last month), then I would suggest NOT reading the rest of this post as I’ll be discussing some spoilers.

The second book, Catching Fire, was probably my favorite. Katniss finds herself, a year later, getting called back into The Hunger Games to face the same impossible challenge: to kill or be killed. This time, however, she finds that a number of the other players are playing only to keep HER alive. Without her knowing it, she has become a symbol of hope to the districts that “the capitol” is oppressing. To these 12 districts, if Katniss can survive, so can they AND they can stop the capitol. The only other thing I’ll say about this book is the love story between Katniss and Peta keeps you turning the pages… and at the very end, you’ll want to punch someone and then grab the third book as soon as possible.

The third book entails the mysterious 13th district that had supposedly died out years ago and is nothing but a wasteland. We find out that the exact opposite is true. Katniss continues to remain a strong symbol to the other districts who are gaining the upper-hand over the capitol. As a final blow to end them, Katniss leads a team whose mission is to find and kill President Snow. This will ensure that the capitol will be finished for good.

The third book was the hardest to get through. I felt like the entire book I was fighting for breath through the darkness and depression. I won’t tell you about the ending. You’ll just have to find out for yourself how the series wraps up.

Overall this was a great series. I would recommend it to all ages even though it is found in the teen section. All 3 of these books will keep you turning the pages.

If you’ve read this series, I want to hear what you thought of 1 or all 3 of the books. Oh! And I would LOVE to see this turn into a movie down the road. What do you think? Who can you see playing the main characters?
